What is the Census

The Decennial Census counts every person who lives in the U.S. and its territories every 10 years. It is a 100% count that started in 1790  as mandated by Article I, Section 2 of the United States Constitution and applicable laws. The 2020 Census is a snapshot of the population on April 1, 2020

What the Funding Means

How the Census impacts the S/WMPO

A full and accurate census population count impacts funding which can be used for bridge and roadway improvements, new bicycling paths and even safety improvements. 

What does the preliminary data indicate?

The data released by the United States Census Bureau indicates that both Wicomico & Sussex Counties had population increases. The chart at the right reflects the following changes

Wicomico County saw an approximate increase of 5,000, while Sussex County saw an approximate increase of 40,000.
